When a woman uses kids to hide Dollar Tree items in a stroller, she pepper-sprays staff when she returns to retrieve her lost phone. Police

A Delaware woman is accused of using her children to try to shoplift from a Dollar Tree and then pepper-spraying employees when confronted.

Shoplifting Incident
Janaia Wright, 28, allegedly placed items under two children in a stroller and a wagon at the Dollar Tree on 2103 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, Delaware, around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. When employees confronted her, she left the items and walked out with the children.

Pepper-Spray Attack
Wright reportedly returned to the store after dropping her cellphone. She allegedly sprayed two workers with pepper spray before leaving again. One worker received minor on-site treatment, while the other refused help.

Property Damage
As she exited the store, Wright knocked over a display, causing damage to merchandise.

Charges and Arrest
Wright was arrested outside the store and faces:

  • Two counts of second-degree assault with chemical spray
  • Two counts of endangering the welfare of a child
  • Shoplifting under $1,500
  • Criminal mischief under $1,000

She was arraigned and released on a $5,600 unsecured bond.
