A Florida man is in custody after allegedly grabbing his 11-year-old niece and repeatedly slamming her head into a wall during a dispute among children, authorities say.

Details of the Incident

Aaron D. Culpepper, 32, faces charges of child abuse without great bodily harm, according to the Miami Police Department. The incident occurred Thursday at a home near Northwest 67th Street and Northwest 13th Avenue in Miami.

Officers were reportedly flagged down by the victim, who was crying uncontrollably. Miami Fire Rescue was called to evaluate the girl.

How the Dispute Started

The argument began after the girl’s cousin took her shoe. In response, the girl reportedly took her cousin’s scooter. When the cousin told Culpepper about the disagreement, the situation escalated.

According to the child, Culpepper grabbed her by the chest and shirt, then repeatedly slammed her head against the wall. Police noted a visible bump on the back of her head. The girl was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.

Statements and Investigation

Culpepper denied pushing his niece’s head into the wall when questioned. His mother also disputed parts of the girl’s account, saying “all he did was jack her up.” Authorities noted that surveillance footage of the incident may exist but was not immediately available.

Arrest and Bond

Culpepper was arrested Thursday and held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. His bond was set at $5,000 following an initial court appearance.
