South Carolina — Nearly 500 homes and businesses were left without electricity after a pickup truck struck two vehicles north of Highway 86 on Highway 20 and continued driving Saturday evening.
Details of the Incident
According to authorities, the driver lost control of the truck after passing south of Highway 86, causing the vehicle to overturn and crash into a power pole, breaking it. The crash also caused a transformer to fall to the ground, bringing down live power lines.
Emergency Response and Safety Efforts
Piedmont firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and removed the driver from the vehicle, ensuring they were safely away from the live power lines. The driver was then transported to the hospital by Greenville County EMS for medical treatment.
In addition to the fire department, a QRV, state troopers, and deputies were also on the scene to assist with the incident.
Power outages affected a significant area, and authorities are working to restore service as soon as possible.
