A Spartanburg man died Wednesday afternoon after a police chase that started in North Carolina and ended in South Carolina, according to authorities.
Police Chase Crosses State Line
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle around 1:30 p.m. on Landrum Road in North Carolina. Officials said the driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a chase into Landrum.
Driver Dies After Crash
Investigators said the driver lost control while trying to make a turn on Hunting Country Road and crashed.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol identified the driver as 31-year-old Willie Gist of Spartanburg. Troopers confirmed he died in the crash.
Investigation Ongoing
Officials said the crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
