Sa’riya Green, one of the suspects in the fatal June 2025 shooting of 17‑year‑old Jayson Cooke, was denied bond at a court hearing on Wednesday.
Suspect Denied Bond in 2025 Fatal Shooting Case
Green was in court after prosecutors formally asked a judge to deny bond in the case tied to Cooke’s death. Authorities say the June 2025 shooting stemmed from a “drug deal gone bad,” according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
During the hearing, Cooke’s mother, Regina Reed, delivered a statement urging the judge to deny bond. The judge agreed, stating that Green was a “potential danger to the community” and should remain in custody.
Other Arrests in the Case
Three other individuals have also been arrested in connection with the incident:
- Makenzie Shine, 20, who was denied bond earlier this year
- Elon Williams, 18, whose attorney filed a motion for bond in December 2025 but has not returned to court
- A minor, about whom authorities have not released further details
No additional bond decisions have been announced for Williams or the minor. The investigation into Cooke’s death is ongoing.
