COLUMBIA, S.C. — Authorities have lifted the boil water advisory in Richland County that was issued following a 24-inch water main rupture on Friday evening. The incident caused the shutdown of Two Notch Road and temporarily left residents without water.
Columbia Water confirmed that the advisory, which affected customers along Two Notch Road from O’Neil Court to Cushman Road, as well as areas between Two Notch Road and S.C. 277, was officially lifted on Sunday.
Repairs and Water Safety
The water main was repaired early Saturday morning after crews worked overnight to fix the rupture. Despite the repair, a precautionary boil water advisory was maintained until testing on Sunday confirmed the water was safe to drink. Columbia Water stated that the distribution system was heavily flushed once the repairs were completed.
What to Do if Water Is Discolored
Though the advisory has been lifted, officials recommended that residents run their taps for two to three minutes if they notice any discolored water. If discoloration persists, residents are encouraged to contact the Columbia Water Customer Services Team at 803-545-3300 for further assistance, and crews will be dispatched to flush the lines in the affected area.
Road and Infrastructure Updates
Regarding the impact on Two Notch Road, officials announced that some lanes would be reopened later on Sunday. However, full restoration of the road and further repairs to the pavement are expected to be discussed with the South Carolina Department of Transportation on Monday.
