CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A deputy with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Sunday afternoon by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Michael Hargrave, 38, was taken into custody on May 3, facing misdemeanor charges of communicating threats and cyberstalking.
In addition to the charges, a criminal domestic violence protection order was issued against Hargrave. While details surrounding the investigation remain limited, authorities are continuing to examine the events that led to the arrest.
Statement from Sheriff McFadden
Mecklenburg County Sheriff McFadden expressed the difficulty of handling such cases, stating, “Any time a member of law enforcement is arrested, it is difficult for everyone involved. All law enforcement personnel are sworn to uphold the law fairly and professionally, regardless of a person’s title, position or agency. This incident is a reminder that accountability applies to all of us who wear the badge. We will continue to handle this matter with the same integrity, transparency, and respect that our community expects.”
Current Status
Hargrave is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center-Central. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has placed him on administrative leave pending the investigation and has declined further comment at this time.
