A shocking incident at a bank in Tennessee has raised serious concerns about safety in public places. What began as a routine visit quickly turned into a violent attack, leaving an employee injured.
What Happened at the Bank
According to the Chattanooga Police Department, 38-year-old Ladarryl Martin has been arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony.
The incident took place on April 23 at a Bank of America branch. Police say Martin was inside the bank around 2 p.m. when the situation escalated.
Sudden Violent Attack
Authorities say Martin was being helped by a bank employee with his safety deposit box when he suddenly became angry without any clear reason.
According to reports from WTVC, he allegedly:
- Punched the employee
- Stabbed him
- Fired multiple gunshots
Fortunately, none of the bullets hit the worker, but he did suffer injuries from the stabbing.
Victim’s Condition
When officers arrived, they found the 28-year-old employee in the bank lobby. Initially, it appeared he had been shot, but later it was confirmed that his injuries were from stabbing.
He was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, as the injuries were not life-threatening.
Suspect’s Statement
Police found Martin in the parking lot shortly after the attack. When questioned, he reportedly said he remembered going to the bank and accessing his safety deposit box.
He claimed that after that, things became unclear, but he recalled jumping over a barrier with a gun. He also admitted to firing the weapon and said he believed someone might have been dead inside the bank.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are still trying to understand what caused Martin to suddenly become violent. No clear motive has been identified yet.
He is currently being held in the Hamilton County Jail with a bond set at $575,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 9.
