Police responded to a shooting call around 10:52 p.m. on Kenyon Street in Northwest Washington, D.C. When officers arrived, they found Gales in an alleyway, unconscious and not breathing, with gunshot wounds. She was declared dead at the scene.

Child Found Safe After Alert

Before the shooting, Gales had been with her 2-year-old son. When she was found, the child was missing, which led police to issue an Amber Alert.

Thankfully, the child was later found safe inside a nearby residence, bringing some relief in an otherwise devastating situation.
