North Charleston firemen respond to a fire outside the shuttered BBQ restaurant

Fire crews in North Charleston responded quickly to an early morning fire at a vacant restaurant along Rivers Avenue.

Fire at Vacant Restaurant

According to the North Charleston Fire Department, the incident happened just before 6 a.m. at Smokey Bones BBQ and Grill, located near a shopping area.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames coming from a trash can outside the building.

How the Fire Spread

Officials said the fire started in the trash can and spread to the awning near the entrance. Crews acted quickly to control the situation and prevent it from moving further inside the building.

Firefighters also went inside the restaurant to make sure the fire had not spread indoors.

Damage and Response

The fire caused visible smoke and fire damage around the entrance area. Crews were able to bring the situation under control within about an hour and began clearing the scene around 7 a.m.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are still working to find out what caused the fire. At this time, no injuries have been reported.
