A disturbing child neglect case in Mobile County is moving forward in court after a mother waived her right to a preliminary hearing.
Mother Faces Serious Charges
Amanda Morgan, 39, is charged with:
- Felony murder
- Aggravated child abuse
The charges are linked to the death of her 14-year-old son in October 2025.
Details About the Child’s Death
According to prosecutors, the boy died from strangulation after a blanket was wrapped around his neck.
Officials explained that:
- The child, who had autism, may have used the blanket as a comfort item
- The strangulation appears to have been accidental
- However, authorities say long-term neglect contributed to the situation
Importantly, prosecutors clarified that they are not accusing Morgan of directly killing her son.

Investigators allege that Morgan left her children—both of whom had severe autism—alone for extended periods.

Condition of Surviving Child
