A late-night road accident in Aiken County has resulted in the death of a motorcyclist, highlighting the risks involved in night-time driving and heavy vehicle movement on roads.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 10:35 p.m. on Sunday on Sand Bar Ferry Road near Laurie Drive.
Officials reported that:
- A 2019 International tractor trailer was travelling east
- The truck slowed down to make a left turn into a private driveway
- A 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, also heading east, struck the truck from behind
The impact of the collision was severe.
Victim Identified
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified him as David Smith III, a 52-year-old resident of Beech Island.
