People are lifted from the USS Laffey after the gangway collapsed.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Around 2:45 p.m., Mount Pleasant Fire Department units were called to Patriots Point after a gangway plank leading to the USS Laffey collapsed, leaving people stranded on the ship.

No Injuries Reported in Incident

According to the Mount Pleasant Fire Department, no individuals were on the gangway when it collapsed, and fortunately, no injuries have been reported. The collapse left approximately 30 people stranded on the ship.

Fire Crews Rescue Stranded Individuals

Fire crews responded quickly and extended a ladder to safely remove the people who were stuck on the ship. The cause of the collapse remains unknown, and authorities are investigating the incident. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
