NCPD increases patrols after repeated zone 8 shootings.

North Charleston, S.C. – In response to multiple shootings over the past week, the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) has realigned resources to increase patrols throughout the northern part of the city. The intensified efforts will focus particularly on what the department refers to as “Zone 8,” which includes neighborhoods such as Northwoods Estates, Deer Park, and the Greenridge Road Corridor.

Focus on Safety and Community Assurance

Captain Justin Holt of the North Bureau stated that the initiative is designed to enhance security and offer reassurance to residents. “Residents want visibility, and we understand that,” Capt. Holt explained. Officers will be highly visible, patrolling the area in both marked and unmarked vehicles, with a strong emphasis on engaging with the community. This includes officers conducting traffic stops and utilizing K-9 units to further ensure the safety of residents.

Positive Results and Community Feedback

The increased presence has already made an impact, with residents noting a rise in patrol visibility. Juan Morales, a local resident, shared, “I have definitely noticed more just driving around… it makes me feel good.” The visible presence has also contributed to a reported 11% decrease in crime in the last two weeks. Capt. Holt reassured the community that the heightened patrols are meant to prevent further incidents, not create fear. He urged residents to report anything unusual and to stay informed through the CRIME Watch app.
