The North Charleston Police Department arrested a Ladson man over the weekend after he allegedly threatened his ex-girlfriend at her apartment.
Nathaniel Jerome Hubbart, 35, is charged with first-degree assault and battery.
Police Respond to Disturbance Call
Officers responded around 8 a.m. Saturday to the 3300 block of Shipley Street after receiving a report of a disturbance. The caller told dispatchers that an ex-boyfriend was beating on the door of an apartment.
According to police, the dispatcher could hear Hubbart in the background during the call.
Officers Locate Suspect
When officers arrived, they reported hearing yelling coming from a second-story apartment. Police located Hubbart and separated him from the residence while they continued their investigation.
Victim Reports Prior Threats
Officers said the victim told them she and Hubbart had recently broken up and that he had threatened her before arriving at her apartment.
Rifle Found in Backpack
During the investigation, officers discovered a backpack near the victim’s door that they determined belonged to Hubbart.
Inside the backpack, police said they found a black Draco-style AK rifle with wooden hardware. The firearm reportedly contained 29 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber.
Arrest and Bond Information
The rifle was seized, and Hubbart was taken into custody.
He was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center and was being held on a $150,000 bond.
