Charleston County Public Works will present updates on the Johns Island road project.

Charleston County Public Works is hosting a public meeting on Wednesday to update residents on the U.S. 17 and Main Road improvement project, aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing safety on Johns Island.

Project Overview

The initiative targets the busy U.S. 17/Main Road intersection with a new fully directional interchange featuring flyover ramps, while widening Main Road from Bees Ferry Road to River/Chisolm Road for added capacity. It also includes stormwater drainage upgrades, bike/pedestrian paths across the Stono River via the Limehouse Bridge, a West Ashley Greenway extension, and a roundabout at River/Chisolm Roads. Construction on the interchange started in April 2025, with CSX railroad bridge work planned for spring 2026.

Meeting Details

The quarterly session begins at 6:30 p.m. at St. Johns High School, 1518 Main Road, allowing direct questions to the project team about upcoming phases. These updates are part of regular community engagement during construction.
