Nick Uricchio, a James Island native and former prosecutor, announced his Democratic candidacy for South Carolina House District 115 to succeed retiring Rep. Spencer Wetmore. The district covers parts of James Island, Johns Island, Folly Beach, Kiawah Island, and Seabrook Island. His campaign emphasizes coastal infrastructure, flood mitigation, affordable living, and protecting local island character.
Background
Uricchio graduated from James Island High School and earned his undergraduate degree from the Charleston School of Law. He prosecuted violent crimes in the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office starting in 2019 before joining Query, Sautter, and Urrichio LLC in 2023 for civil practice.
Key Priorities
Uricchio plans to build on Wetmore’s constituent services with investments in drainage and infrastructure. He opposes overdevelopment on barrier islands and seeks to lower living costs while safeguarding voting rights, democratic institutions, and reproductive freedoms.
Political Context
District 115 is a competitive coastal seat Democrats aim to retain after Wetmore’s retirement, announced earlier in January 2026. Wetmore won narrowly in past cycles despite GOP waves, and the race could attract strong challengers.
