The county coroner recognized the driver who was shot in the collision on Clements Ferry Road.

Arthur Broughton Jr., 39, from Huger, South Carolina, was found shot dead in a vehicle that crashed into a power pole on Clements Ferry Road, about half a mile from Cainhoy Road. The incident occurred on January 14, 2026, around 7:30 a.m., and detectives believe the shooting took place inside the vehicle. As of January 16, 2026, the cause and manner of death await autopsy results, with no arrests reported.​

The Charleston Police Department responded to the crash and confirmed the driver died at the scene from gunshot wounds. A passenger was transported to a local hospital, though their condition remains undisclosed. Preliminary findings indicate the shooting preceded the crash into the power pole.​
