Christopher Mollette, a 37-year-old man from Tomahawk, Kentucky, allegedly stole his ex-girlfriend’s car from Pikeville Medical Center right after witnessing the birth of their child. He faces charges of auto theft and receiving stolen property following his arrest in Paintsville.

Incident Overview

Mollette was told by the mother to wait in her car due to hospital visitation restrictions during the delivery. After the birth, he drove off without permission, as confirmed by security footage showing him switching from the passenger to the driver’s seat.

Police Response

Officers reviewed video evidence and located Mollette about 45 minutes away in Paintsville, where they arrested him on Saturday night. The mother reported that when she called, he dismissed her inquiries about the vehicle’s whereabouts.

Mollette, who has prior arrests for methamphetamine possession, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, traffic violations, and failure to appear, is held at Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on $10,000 bond per charge.
