A judge sentenced the woman who shot the manager at California Dreaming after a fight

Kresha Oshey Simmons, 30, was sentenced to 28 years in prison by Charleston County Judge Dale Van Slambrook after pleading guilty to two counts of attempted murder, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and weapons charges tied to incidents in 2022 and 2024.

Restaurant Shooting

On May 24, 2024, Simmons shot her manager in the kitchen of California Dreaming in West Ashley during an argument over being sent home early due to slow business, pulling a gun from her waistband and fleeing the scene. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized; no customers were harmed despite being present. Police arrested Simmons a week later, and she has remained in custody since.

Prior Incident

In September 2022, Simmons shot her girlfriend out of jealousy, mistakenly believing a visitor was involved romantically, then continued threatening her until captured by police. Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson praised the sentence for prioritizing victim safety and community livability, crediting Charleston Police investigations.
