Victim's family seeks answers in North Charleston gunshot killing

North Charleston, South Carolina. The family of a 27-year-old man shot in North Charleston earlier this month is demanding answers while they await an arrest in an ongoing investigation.

Terrance Bolger was shot shortly before 2 a.m. on November 2 in the Aqua Event Center parking lot on Rivers Avenue. Investigators reported that he was found deceased at the scene.

It’s a day that his family believes they will never forget.

His mother, Terrilyn Bolger, recalls receiving the phone call at 1:59 a.m. and learning that her son had been killed, a memory she replays on a regular basis.

“When I got the call, it really seemed like my whole heart just fled my body,” she recounts.”

Bolger was a son, brother, and father of two children, aged five and two years old. His mother described him as outgoing and quiet, with a close network of friends. She thinks she will miss his grin the most.

“He had a smile that brightened up the room,” she tells me.

His funeral was last weekend, and she claims that despite having buried him, they are still hard to grieve properly because of all the unresolved questions.

“I’m so heartbroken and it’s real hard for me every day,” she tells me. “Every day seems to be getting worse. I simply hope that whoever was involved or did this will hurry up and get justice.”

His sister, Kiyla Bolger, expressed her hope that their family will receive justice. She claims she and her brother had a tight relationship and would frequently spend hours on FaceTime calls with him, which she will sorely miss.

“Every day I wake up and I’m like, how am I going to move on?” Kiyla Bolger says. “I didn’t plan to live my life without my brother.”

They also hope that the area’s ongoing gun violence would subside.

“This is so sad how gun violence is hard out here for people and not only for me, but for anybody who lost a family member due to gun violence,” Terrilyn Bolger told me.

North Charleston police are still investigating the shooting.

There have been no arrests made.
