An inmate at the York County Detention Center died on Saturday due to a medical issue.
The offender slumped in the shower just after 4:50 p.m., causing other detainees to notify the detention center officials. Officers responded promptly, discovering the convict unresponsive and initiating life-saving efforts. Emergency Medical Services came about ten minutes later and attempted to revive him before transferring him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:16 p.m.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the inmate’s death. The male’s identity will not be published until the investigation is completed.
The convict has been in jail since January 30.
