Charleston, SC — A powerful cold front will drop temperatures across southeast Georgia and South Carolina’s Lowcountry early next week, with wind chills in the 20s by Tuesday morning (Nov. 11), according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
Forecasters predict that the coldest air of the season will come Monday night and Tuesday, with winds of 5 to 10 mph making it feel even colder. Many inland regions, including Statesboro, Walterboro, and Moncks Corner, are expected to have wind chills ranging from 22°F to 29°F, while Charleston and Savannah may experience temperatures in the upper 20s.
The weather service predicted that this event will bring near-record low temperatures, making it one of the season’s first big cold snaps. Residents should protect their pets, plants, and pipes, as well as clothing in layers, while going outside early Tuesday.
While the sky are forecast to remain generally clear, the chilly, dry air will persist until midweek before gradually warming later in the week. Officials advise the public to follow local forecasts and take precautions against frost and slippery areas on bridges and overpasses.
