A young man in Michigan is now facing serious charges after allegedly shooting someone who came to help his ex-girlfriend. The woman had noticed she was being followed after leaving a movie theatre and called someone she trusted for help. That call led to a violent encounter.
Man Allegedly Shoots Victim Who Tried to Help Ex-Girlfriend
Police say 22-year-old Dominic Michael McBride followed his ex-girlfriend from a movie theatre all the way to a home in Sumpter Township, about 30 miles southwest of Detroit. The woman had been at the Emagine Theater in Canton Township, around 20 miles from where the shooting happened.
She was with another man at the time, and after noticing McBride was following them, she reached out to a 40-year-old man she knew—possibly for protection or support.
Gunfire on Reed Street
The 40-year-old man, who lived at the home on Reed Street, came outside when the car pulled up. According to police, he approached McBride’s vehicle and told him to leave the property. But instead of driving off, McBride allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at him while still sitting in his car.
The victim was shot twice—once in the upper left chest and once on the cheek. Thankfully, he survived and was rushed to a hospital by Huron Valley Ambulance.
Shooter Waited for Police
Surprisingly, McBride didn’t try to run. After the shooting, police say he drove to a nearby area and waited for officers to arrive. He was arrested without further incident, and the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
McBride now faces multiple serious charges:
Assault with intent to murder
Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder
Assault with a dangerous weapon
He appeared before Judge Teresa Arlaina Patton, who set his bond at $500,000. He is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on September 24.
What Sparked the Incident?
The full relationship history between McBride and his ex-girlfriend hasn’t been revealed, but police confirm that he approached her at the theatre earlier that evening. When she left with another man, he allegedly followed them for over 18 miles to the Reed Street home.
What’s clear is that McBride’s actions—from stalking his ex to firing a gun at someone trying to protect her—have now put him in serious legal trouble.
Community Reaction and Safety Reminders
Incidents like this are disturbing for any community. They also serve as an important reminder: if you feel unsafe or followed, call the police immediately. In this case, the woman tried to handle it by calling someone she knew, but it still ended in violence.
This shocking case in Michigan highlights how quickly jealousy and anger can turn dangerous. A man trying to help ended up in the hospital, and a young man is now facing years in prison. Let this be a lesson on the importance of handling personal disputes through legal and safe channels—not with violence.
