Man alleged by SC's Mace charged with domestic violence on Sullivan's Island

Charleston, SC – Eric Bowman, 45, has been charged with domestic violence in the first degree following the circulation of a 2016 video that allegedly shows him beating a woman. Bowman was arrested by the Sullivan’s Island Police Department and is currently being held at the Charleston County Jail pending a bond hearing. He was booked early Wednesday morning at 6:22 a.m..

Bowman’s arrest comes just days after the video surfaced on social media, sparking widespread outrage. The footage allegedly shows Bowman involved in an act of violence against a woman.

Ties to U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace’s February House Speech

Bowman was one of the men named by U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace in a February House floor speech, where she accused four men of committing heinous crimes against women, including rape and voyeurism. Mace’s explosive speech garnered attention, and Bowman’s recent arrest adds to the fallout from these serious allegations.

Rep. Mace’s Response

In a statement following Bowman’s arrest, Mace said, “Violent criminals belong behind bars. Eric Bowman’s arrest today is an important step toward protecting victims, holding violent criminals accountable, and making our community safer.” She also praised Sullivan’s Island Police Chief Glenn Meadows for his swift action in removing a violent offender from the streets of South Carolina.

“Sullivan’s Island is safer today than it was yesterday,” Mace added.

The case remains under investigation, and further details will emerge as the legal process unfolds
