A man was arrested in North Charleston, South Carolina, on Monday morning after a traffic stop led to the discovery of an illegal firearm and narcotics. The incident occurred on Greenridge Road when officers from the North Charleston Police Department stopped a vehicle for several traffic violations. These included a broken rear brake light, failure to stay in the lane, and improper signaling during turns.
Discovery of Marijuana and Firearm
During the stop, the driver admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle. A subsequent search, based on probable cause, led to the discovery of a handgun concealed in a luggage bag. Additionally, officers found two bags of cannabis flower and three THC-infused chocolate bars.
Charges and Arrest
The driver, identified as 40-year-old Gerald Glenn Simmons from Ridgeville, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses. These charges include unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and felony possession of a firearm. Following the arrest, Simmons was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
