Nathan Brown, 51, a garbage truck driver in St. Petersburg, Florida, has been charged after allegedly fatally running over a woman sleeping in an alley downtown.

Details of the Incident

The fatal accident occurred on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in an alley on 3rd Street North, between Central Avenue and 1st Avenue North. The area is known for bars, restaurants, and other businesses.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a bystander warned Brown that people were sleeping in the alley before he reversed his truck to collect trash. Brown allegedly ignored the warning and backed into the area, fatally striking a 49-year-old woman.

Driver’s Response and Arrest

Brown allegedly left the scene without helping the victim or calling 911. He was arrested later the same day and booked into Pinellas County Jail. He posted a $50,000 bond on Sunday and is prohibited from driving while the investigation continues.
