A truck driver is facing criminal charges after his semi truck was discovered fully submerged in water near a boat dock on Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina. The incident unfolded on the morning of July 30, 2025, when Sullivan’s Island Police Department (SIPD) responded to a missing person report and an unusual vehicle location near the town’s boat landing.
Discovery and Investigation
Around 10 a.m. on July 30, SIPD officers detained an adult male near Fort Moultrie and transported him for a medical evaluation. That evening, a commercial trucking company contacted the police, reporting that one of their drivers had gone missing and had failed to make contact. The company’s tracking software showed that the truck’s last known location was near the boat landing at the 900 block of Osceola Avenue.
After reviewing the coordinates, officers suspected that the truck had gone into the water. The following day, on July 31, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Unit used sonar technology to locate the submerged vehicle near the Sullivan’s Island Fire Department dock. Divers confirmed that the truck was found 14 feet underwater.
Recovery and Identification
The truck, identified as a 2022 International Sleeper Cab, was registered to a Kentucky-based commercial carrier. A heavy-duty wrecker was used to recover the vehicle from the water. The U.S. Coast Guard also responded to the scene to assist with the recovery efforts.
Pending Charges
As of now, criminal charges are pending against the truck driver, who had been detained and later identified as the person involved in the incident. SIPD is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the truck’s submersion.
