A Charleston man is facing drug-related charges after a traffic stop on Sunday in North Charleston. Officers from the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) conducted the stop after the driver was seen speeding at 79 mph in a 55 mph zone near the I-526 and I-26 interchange. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Brandon Molix, was arrested after officers discovered a suspended driver’s license and evidence of drugs in his vehicle.
Discovery of Drugs and Weapons During Traffic Stop
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers reportedly noticed a strong marijuana smell, prompting them to conduct a probable cause search. During the search, authorities found a digital scale with white powder residue, a handgun, and a folded dollar bill containing an off-white, rock-like substance.
According to the North Charleston Police Department, preliminary tests on the substances revealed the presence of Fentanyl and Cocaine base. These findings led to the arrest of Brandon Molix on charges of possession of cocaine and possession of fentanyl.
Molix’s Arrest and Legal Consequences
Brandon Molix was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center and booked on the charges. The incident underscores the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to combat impaired driving and drug-related offenses on the roads.
The discovery of drugs such as Fentanyl and Cocaine during routine traffic stops highlights the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of vigilance by law enforcement in keeping communities safe.
Brandon Molix’s arrest serves as a reminder of the significant consequences of driving with a suspended license while involved in illegal activities, including drug possession. Authorities are continuing their work to curb both impaired driving and drug-related crimes in the area, with this stop resulting in a successful recovery of dangerous substances.
