A 25-year-old man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in West Ashley overnight, according to police.
The accident occurred on July 14 at approximately 2:15 a.m. near the intersection of Sam Rittenberg Boulevard and Dupont Road.
According to authorities, a person was walking in the roadway when they were fatally struck by a southbound vehicle. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jarico Myron Nelson, a 19-year-old Charleston resident.
The driver, McKither Vincent Bodison Jr., 25, remained at the scene and was charged with driving under the influence.
The road was closed for several hours before reopening to traffic around 7:45 a.m.
