Firefighters from Central Berkeley respond to a lightning-caused home fire

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — Crews from Central Berkeley Fire & EMS responded to a working fire at a home in Cane Bay on Thursday evening. The fire, which was reported at 6:19 p.m. on Hydra Lane, is confirmed to have been caused by a lightning strike to the roof, according to Assistant Fire Chief Colt Roy.

The National Weather Service confirmed the lightning strike as the cause after a 911 call was made. Firefighters quickly responded, and fortunately, the fire was contained to the attic of the home. Crews worked efficiently to control the situation, and the fire has since been placed under control.

No further details on injuries or damage were immediately available, but the swift response helped prevent the fire from spreading beyond the attic.
