Crews going to the Berkeley County brush fire

Berkeley County, S.C. — The brush fire near North Creek Drive and US-176 in Berkeley County that started on Thursday afternoon is now fully contained, according to fire officials. While the fire has been brought under control, smoke is expected to remain in the area through the evening and into Friday morning.

Firefighters and Forestry Teams Worked Together

Around 25 firefighters from different local fire departments responded quickly to the scene. The fire, which burned 15 to 20 acres, was first reported as 60% contained by 3:40 p.m. on Thursday. Thanks to the hard work of all the teams, it was 100% contained later that evening.

To fight the fire effectively, the South Carolina Forestry Commission brought in four bulldozers to create fire breaks and two airplanes to drop water over the burning area.

Fire Departments Involved

Several agencies worked together to stop the fire, including:

  • Pine Ridge Fire Rescue
  • Central Berkeley Fire & EMS
  • Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department
  • South Carolina Forestry Commission

Their teamwork helped prevent the fire from spreading further or causing serious damage.

No Road Closures, But Low Visibility Reported

While there are no current road closures, officials are warning drivers to be careful near State Road and North Creek Drive. Smoke in the area has caused low visibility, which can be dangerous, especially while driving at night.

People living nearby are also advised to keep their windows closed and avoid outdoor activities if the smoke is strong.

No Injuries or Property Damage

Thankfully, no homes were threatened, and no injuries have been reported so far. Officials are still looking into what caused the fire, but at this time, there are no signs of criminal activity.

The fast response from local firefighters and the South Carolina Forestry Commission helped to quickly contain the 15 to 20-acre brush fire in Berkeley County. While the fire is now fully under control, the smoke is expected to linger for a while, so residents and drivers in the area should take caution. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and more updates may be shared as details become available.
