A 7-year-old girl is in critical condition after ingesting a dangerous mix of fentanyl and methamphetamine, which police say was unknowingly consumed in a slushie. Authorities responded to a 911 call on April 19, 2025, in the 8600 block of Olden Avenue in Charlack, Missouri. The child, whose identity has not been disclosed due to her age, was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
Police Investigation and Findings
The St. Ann Police Department initiated an investigation after the 911 call and soon developed probable cause to believe illegal narcotics contributed to the girl’s medical condition. During their inquiry, police discovered that the child had overdosed on fentanyl and methamphetamine, likely after the drugs were unknowingly mixed into the slushie she consumed.
According to police reports, Jaslyn Raquelle Crawford, who was present in the home, allegedly told investigators that she was using drugs in the bathroom when the child entered. Police believe that the drugs ended up in the slushie, which the 7-year-old drank. Authorities also found drugs hidden in Crawford’s bra and purse when she was arrested.
Arrest and Charges
Crawford was arrested and charged with two felony counts: Endangering the Welfare of a Child – 1st Degree (Serious Physical Injury) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Creating Substantial Risk – 1st Degree. These charges relate to the harm and danger Crawford allegedly caused to the child by allowing the drugs to be accessible.
St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Price Smith warned about the deadly potency of fentanyl, stating, “Even the smallest amount of fentanyl and these deadly drugs, if a child were to touch the dust of it, touch their mouth, or just touch the bare minimum, they’re able to overdose on that amount.”
Crawford’s bond has been set at $250,000 cash only, with no options for bond reduction. She is currently being held at the St. Louis County Jail.
The Tragic Incident
“This is one of those tragic cases that you come across every now and then that you feel like shouldn’t happen,” said St. Ann Police Department Captain Blake Carrigan. He also noted that the child’s mother was the one who called 911 after discovering her daughter’s medical condition.
The case has shocked the local community, highlighting the dangers of illegal narcotics and the devastating effects they can have on vulnerable individuals, especially children.
Ongoing Investigation
The St. Ann Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.
