A Texas woman has been arrested months after a head-on crash that seriously injured a 7-year-old boy and left him permanently paralyzed, authorities said.

Woman Charged After Serious Crash

Anissa Cantrell Bell, 45, faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two additional aggravated assault charges related to a February crash in Waco, Texas.

According to investigators, Bell was attempting to pass vehicles in a no-passing zone when her SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle.

Child Suffers Catastrophic Injuries

Authorities said a 7-year-old boy injured in the crash suffered severe neck and head trauma that resulted in permanent paralysis.

Several other people, including Bell and the other drivers involved, were also injured.

Investigators Allege Intoxication

According to the arrest affidavit, officers found a partially consumed bottle of tequila inside Bell’s vehicle.

Investigators said Bell showed signs of intoxication at the hospital, and a blood alcohol test conducted about 50 minutes after the crash reportedly showed a BAC of 0.22, nearly three times the legal limit.

Arrest Made

Bell was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the McLennan County Jail.

She was later released on a $100,000 personal recognizance bond as the case moves forward.
