College of Charleston student talks starring in Prime Video series

Being part of a TV show while still in school sounds like a dream, right? That’s exactly what happened for Elle Robison, a junior at the College of Charleston. She recently opened up about her experience filming for the Prime Video series “Sweethearts,” which follows high school couples from Charleston as they navigate their relationships while preparing for college life.

The series, which premiered in February, has ten episodes and features six young couples — including Elle and her boyfriend, Justin Coleman. What started as a random Instagram message soon turned into a life-changing experience for the couple.

How Elle Got Cast on the Show

Elle’s journey with Sweethearts began when she received a direct message on Instagram about the casting. Some of her mutual friends had heard about the opportunity and encouraged their group to try it out.

After a few interviews, Elle and Justin made the cut — even though they had only been dating for four months at the time. “It was definitely a leap of faith,” Elle said in an interview with The College Today.

Filming at Popular Charleston Locations

The filming began in March 2023 and wrapped up in August. Their first scenes were shot at the beach, and Elle remembered feeling super nervous. She said there were crowds around them, filming with their phones and watching everything closely.

The show was shot at several well-known places around the Charleston area, such as Kiawah Island, Shem Creek, the South Carolina Aquarium, and Waterfront Park. They even filmed at her old high school and during her senior prom, which was quite an experience.

“Being filmed at my prom and high school was totally out of my comfort zone,” Elle shared. “It’s not every day you’re in school and on a show at the same time.”

Getting Comfortable in Front of the Camera

As filming went on, Elle began to feel more relaxed with the cameras and the attention. The entire experience helped her grow in more ways than one. It not only boosted her confidence but also gave her a head start in her media career.

Now in college, Elle is actively working in the media space. She takes sports photos for her college and local sports teams, and she even coaches a 14-and-under club volleyball team.

A Love Story That Keeps Growing

The show may have ended, but Elle and Justin’s relationship is still going strong. “Since being in college, Justin and I have stayed together, and we’ll celebrate three years in May!” she said happily.

They even started their own YouTube channel to share more about their life after the show and keep their story going for fans and followers.

Elle Robison’s journey on Sweethearts is a great example of how unexpected opportunities can open doors to exciting new paths. What started as a simple DM turned into a major media project that not only strengthened her relationship but also helped her discover her passion for photography and storytelling. With her growing presence in media and her strong bond with Justin, Elle’s story is one many young people can relate to — stepping out of your comfort zone, following your dreams, and making the most of every opportunity.
