A Missouri man has been charged after authorities found a woman’s body inside a trash bin floating in a creek.

Body Found in Floating Trash Bin

On May 17, a boater spotted a City of Columbia trash bin floating in Perche Creek in Boone County and reported a strong smell coming from it. Deputies recovered the bin and found the body of an adult woman inside.

Suspect Linked Through Surveillance Footage

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage showing a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck carrying a similar trash bin near the Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area. Police later identified the driver as 53-year-old Andrew Acton.

Murder Charges Filed

Authorities allege Acton strangled and smothered the woman, placed her body inside the trash bin, and dumped it in the creek to hide the crime. During questioning, he claimed he could not remember what happened but did not deny dumping the bin.

Acton has been charged with second-degree murder, abandonment of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 9.
