A South Carolina man was sentenced to five years in federal prison for distributing fentanyl-laced pills that led to a lawyer’s death.
Incident Details
Levi Phillip Miles, 48, distributed prescription pain pills to his employer and cousin, David Aylor, from January 2022 through January 2023. On January 1, 2023, Miles gave Aylor pills he believed were legitimate but that contained fentanyl. Aylor was found dead at his home the next day.
Charges and Sentence
Miles pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and OxyContin, and distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. He was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison, three years of supervised release, and a $40,000 fine.
Investigation
The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated the case. Prosecutors confirmed the victim’s death was caused by the fentanyl pills Miles distributed.

U.S. Attorney Bryan Stirling emphasized the dangers of fentanyl and the importance of holding distributors accountable, noting that “one pill can kill.”
