A South Carolina woman has been charged with DUI and driving on a suspended license after returning to the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident in North Charleston.

Woman Charged After Fatal Collision

According to North Charleston police, Kaitlen Zaran Nelson, 24, of Summerville, was charged after arriving at the scene of a crash on Bridge View Road in the early morning of May 26.

Officers said Nelson told them she knew the pedestrian involved and observed signs that she was impaired.

A breath test reportedly showed a blood alcohol level of 0.15.

Pedestrian Identified

Police found a man lying on the road just before 4 a.m. May 26, bleeding from a wrist. Officers initially found a pulse but lost it shortly afterward while attempting life-saving measures.

The Charleston County coroner later identified the pedestrian as 31-year-old Marvin Pressley Jr.

Investigation Ongoing

While Nelson has been charged with DUI and driving on a suspended license, police have not filed charges against the driver who struck Pressley.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the fatal collision.
