An Alabama mother has been arrested after authorities accused her of causing the death of her 17-month-old special-needs son by giving him a dangerous liquid solution through his feeding tube.
Mother Faces Manslaughter Charges
Kaitlynn Grace Dominick, 22, has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated child abuse, according to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said Dominick took her son to the University of South Alabama Health Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Mobile on May 4. The child died the following day.
Doctors reportedly became concerned after seeing alarming lab results and contacted the Alabama Department of Human Resources, which then alerted law enforcement.
Investigators Say Mother Gave Child Harmful Solution
Authorities said the boy had a medical condition that required a feeding tube.
During the investigation, deputies claimed Dominick gave inconsistent statements about what happened. She later admitted to mixing a liquid solution and administering it to her son through the feeding tube, investigators said.
Officials have not revealed what was inside the mixture. However, authorities confirmed it did not contain bleach, alcohol, or illegal drugs.
Child’s Medical Condition Made Situation Worse
According to investigators, the ingredients in the solution may not have seriously harmed a healthy adult but became dangerous because the child was only 17 months old and already had medical issues.
Police allege Dominick knew the solution could be harmful to her son.
Authorities have not publicly shared a motive in the case, and the child’s identity has not been released.
Arrest and Investigation
Investigators believe the act was intentional and said the charges were decided after discussions with the District Attorney’s Office.
Dominick was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Baldwin County Jail as the investigation continues.
