An 18-year-old New Jersey man has been charged with murder after police say they found his grandmother dead inside a home with knives protruding from her face.
Authorities identified the suspect as Louis Brown, 18, of Jackson Township. He was charged on May 18 with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
The victim was identified as 69-year-old Darlene Brown.
Police Responded to Disturbing Emergency Call
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, officers responded to a home on Justin Way at around 7 a.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting that someone had been murdered.
Prosecutors said Louis Brown himself made the emergency call.
When officers arrived at the residence, they reportedly found Brown standing in the front doorway of the home.
Authorities said he exited the house with his hands raised and was immediately taken into custody while police investigated the scene.
Victim Found Dead in Upstairs Bedroom
Investigators said officers discovered Darlene Brown dead inside an upstairs bedroom.
Police reported that the victim had suffered stab wounds to her face and neck.
Authorities also stated that two knives were found protruding from the victim’s body when officers entered the room.
The details of the scene shocked investigators and led to Brown’s immediate arrest.
Suspect Remains in Jail
After being arrested, Brown was transported to the Ocean County Jail.
Officials said he remains in custody while awaiting a detention hearing.
Authorities have not yet publicly released additional details about a possible motive in the case.
