The victims were identified as Ernst Marais, 71, and Dina Marais, 73, from Mossel Bay on South Africa’s southern coast.
Couple Disappeared During Safari Trip
According to reports, the couple was last seen on Wednesday, May 20, when they left their holiday accommodations inside the national park for a day of sightseeing.
When they failed to return, park officials launched a search operation after staff members became concerned.
Authorities later discovered the couple’s bodies near a river in the Pafuri section of the park on Friday, May 22.
Reports Suggest Brutal Attack
Local media reports stated that the couple’s bodies showed signs of a violent attack.

Authorities also confirmed that the couple’s vehicle, a 4×4 pickup truck, is missing.
According to reports, investigators believe the vehicle may have been stolen after the attack.
Police Investigating Possible Motive
Sources quoted by local media suggested investigators are examining whether the couple may have encountered poachers or smugglers operating near the border area.
Some reports indicated authorities are considering whether the victims were attacked to prevent them from reporting illegal activities.
However, police have not officially confirmed a motive.
