A Texas man has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing his uncle, then hiding the body in a recycling bin in his backyard for several days.

The Incident

Aquiminee La Roy Crawford, 26, is accused of killing his 52-year-old uncle, Derrick Crawford, at a home on Sterling Street in San Antonio’s Colosseum Willow Park neighborhood around May 9. Police say Crawford admitted to shooting his uncle five times after a dispute over a comment and money owed.

Discovery of the Body

Officers responded to a 911 call made by Crawford himself. Upon arrival, police discovered a “foul odor” coming from a recycling bin. When tipped over, the bin revealed Derrick Crawford’s body wrapped in multiple black garbage bags.

Investigation Details

Authorities recovered the handgun used in the shooting, spent shell casings, and the victim’s cellphone. Blood spatter on walls and a blood-soaked couch corroborated Crawford’s account. The victim’s mother said she was unaware of the murder and had been searching for her son for about a week.

Charges and Custody

Crawford was initially booked for abuse of a corpse before being charged with two counts of murder. He remains in custody at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on a $250,000 bond.
