A Minnesota man is in jail after allegedly trying to kill his wife with a hammer during a violent attack at their home in Wyoming, Minnesota.
The Attack
Authorities say 72-year-old James Alan Johnson struck his wife multiple times with a hammer on May 11, leaving her with severe head, arm, and hand injuries. The attack was interrupted when an Amazon delivery driver arrived, confronted Johnson, and called 911.
The victim managed to fend him off by kicking him in the groin and was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment.
Investigation and Motive
Police said Johnson admitted he had been planning the attack for several days due to financial concerns, claiming he did not want his wife to face reduced Social Security benefits if his business failed.
Charges and Bond
Johnson faces charges of first-degree attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. He is being held at Chisago County Jail on a $1 million bond, and the case has not yet been scheduled in court.
