A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for stabbing his wife to death after learning she planned to leave him.
Husband Sentenced for Wife’s Murder
Luis Rosado, 53, was convicted of murdering his wife, 38-year-old Jillian Tatro, in North Adams, Massachusetts.
A judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Victim’s Son Found Her Dead
Authorities said Tatro was killed inside her apartment on May 28, 2022.
According to investigators, her son arrived at the apartment shortly after the killing and saw Rosado leaving. Rosado allegedly told him Tatro had left with a friend.
The next day, after not hearing from his mother, the son entered the apartment and found her dead near the doorway.
Medical Examiner Detailed Brutal Injuries
Officials said Tatro had been stabbed 10 times, slashed multiple times, and suffered blunt force trauma to the head.
Investigators used cellphone data, witness statements, and evidence from the scene to connect Rosado to the killing.
Prosecutors Say Domestic Violence Was Ongoing
Authorities said domestic violence had been a long-standing issue in the relationship.
Witnesses reportedly heard Rosado threaten to kill Tatro if she left him.
Prosecutors said Tatro had planned to leave the relationship just days after she was murdered.
Family Praised for Strength During Trial
Following the sentencing, prosecutors praised Tatro’s son for his courage while testifying during the trial and highlighted the dangers victims can face when trying to leave abusive relationships.
