Two teenagers have tragically lost their lives in a hit-and-run incident in Newport, Wales, after a BMW collided with their motorbike. The victims, identified as friends Jaydon Bowyer, 19, and Ta-Shay Canoville, 16, were killed in the early hours of Thursday, May 7, while riding the bike near Aberthaw Road.
The Fatal Collision
The two teens were riding on the motorbike, with one driving and the other as a passenger, when the BMW struck them, causing the fatal crash. Paramedics pronounced both teens dead at the scene. Police have confirmed that the BMW involved in the incident fled the scene before officers arrived, making it a suspected hit-and-run.
The victims have since been identified as Jaydon Bowyer, 19, and Ta-Shay Canoville, 16, by multiple news outlets including the Daily Mail and The Mirror. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to come forward.
Arrests Made in Connection with the Incident
Following the crash, Gwent Police arrested three people in connection with the deaths. An 18-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three suspects remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
Police have also appealed to the public for any information that might help in the investigation. They are urging residents of Aberthaw Road and surrounding areas to check their CCTV or dashcam footage for any relevant material between midnight and 1:40 a.m. on May 7, when the collision occurred.
Community Grieves the Loss of the Teens
As the investigation unfolds, friends and family have been left heartbroken by the loss of the two young men. Bowyer’s mother, Sophie Louise Pederson, shared an emotional tribute to her son on Facebook, expressing the immense pain of losing her “darling darling boy.” She described Jaydon as “the best boy ever” and shared her struggle to process the loss of her firstborn.
“You were the best boy ever, everyone adored you,” Pederson wrote. “How do I live without you here by my side? I’m struggling to process the loss of you, my firstborn, my whole world, my absolute everything.”
In an effort to support the grieving families, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been created to raise funds for both Bowyer and Canoville’s families. The fundraiser describes the deaths as a “heartbreaking loss.”
