The dismembered body of Belgian tourist Katty Oosterlinck, 56, was discovered at a landfill on the island of Fuerteventura, Spain, days after she went missing. Oosterlinck’s remains were found on Friday, May 8, at the Zurita rubbish dump in the town of Puerto del Rosario.
Disappearance and Discovery
Oosterlinck had been out of contact with her friends and family since May 4, prompting Spanish authorities to launch a search operation. After days of investigation, authorities located her body at the Zurita environmental complex, where they had been conducting searches for several days.
Arrest of Son
While the cause of Oosterlinck’s death and the circumstances of her disappearance have not been revealed, Spanish authorities have arrested her 22-year-old son on suspicion of murder. The Spanish Civil Guard’s Judicial Police unit in Las Palmas is leading the investigation into the case.
Autopsy Pending
The body has been removed from the landfill site and sent to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Las Palmas for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
As of May 9, authorities had not provided further comments on the ongoing investigation.
