An Indiana man and woman are facing serious charges after allegedly neglecting the man’s brother, allowing him to endure severe physical harm and suffering in an unsanitary environment. The pair reportedly left the man in a filthy home, where he was found with serious wounds and malnutrition, prompting authorities to take action.

Alleged Neglect and Discovery of Abuse

Tamara Eaton, 47, and Michael Tinsley, 39, were arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury and obstruction of justice, according to court documents obtained by Law&Crime. Tinsley also faces a separate charge for possession of marijuana due to a previous drug conviction.

The incident took place on Sunday at a home on West Missouri Street in Evansville, Indiana, a city near the Kentucky border. Eaton and Tinsley were reportedly responsible for the care of Tinsley’s brother, who has autism, following the recent death of his mother.

Authorities were first alerted by the victim’s sister, who had concerns about her brother’s well-being despite being out of state. The sister contacted law enforcement, prompting officers to visit the home. However, when they arrived, Eaton reportedly blocked them from entering, claiming that adult protective services were already involved. The officers left, but their concerns remained.

Second Visit and Horrifying Conditions

Days later, a worker from a medical device company became concerned about the condition of the home and called the authorities once again. This time, when officers returned, they were initially unable to make contact with anyone at the residence. The police then threatened to forcibly enter the property, and when they did, they discovered a shocking scene.

The victim was found on a couch, with a blanket stuck to multiple wounds on his feet. Authorities reported that the man had also sustained a burn on his arm and showed signs of severe malnutrition. The condition of the home was equally alarming, with a caved-in floor, no running water, and an empty refrigerator. The entire residence emitted a strong odor of decay.

Immediate Medical Attention and Arrests

The victim was immediately taken to the hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries and malnutrition. Eaton and Tinsley were arrested and taken into custody, with both facing charges for their alleged roles in the man’s suffering.

The couple is scheduled for their first court hearing on Tuesday. The case has drawn attention to the dangers of neglect and the responsibility to care for vulnerable individuals, especially after the loss of a primary caregiver. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abuse.
