A man claimed that he and his wife were stabbed by an intruder until cops discovered someone very familiar-looking on his Ring camera.

Kyle Cathcart, 41, was arrested on May 1, 2023, in connection with the death of his wife, Jodi Cathcart, after initially claiming they were victims of a home invasion. According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies responded to a 911 call from Kyle, who reported being attacked by an intruder at their Covington, Washington, home.

Discovery of the Crime

When police arrived at the Cathcart home, they found Jodi Cathcart dead from multiple stab wounds, while Kyle had non-life-threatening injuries. Kyle told authorities that he fought off the intruder, who attacked both him and his wife. However, investigators later reviewed the home’s Ring camera footage, which only showed someone leaving the home, not entering.

Investigation Uncovers Key Evidence

Further investigation led to the discovery of a hoodie near the neighbor’s garbage, which tested positive for blood. The hoodie, belonging to Jodi Cathcart, raised suspicion that Kyle had staged the scene.

During questioning, Kyle admitted to planning his wife’s murder, wearing her hoodie, and fabricating the home invasion. He also confessed to attempting suicide but claimed the knife was too dull.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

Kyle Cathcart has not been formally charged but remains in custody on suspicion of first-degree murder. Local authorities are reviewing the case before deciding on charges.
