ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. – A man was arrested in Anderson County after a rideshare driver contacted law enforcement when a passenger reportedly entered the vehicle while under the influence and carrying a firearm.

Rideshare Driver Alerts Authorities

According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Murray Avenue in Anderson after receiving a call about a suspicious passenger inside a rideshare vehicle.

Authorities said 34-year-old Hykeem Kirkland got into the car while allegedly under the influence and handling a firearm, prompting the driver to contact police.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Kirkland sitting in the backseat of the vehicle.

Drugs and Firearm Discovered

During the investigation, deputies reportedly found at least eight grams of cocaine and approximately nine ounces of methamphetamine in Kirkland’s possession.

The sheriff’s office said the discovery led to multiple serious charges connected to drug trafficking and weapon possession.

Charges Filed Against Suspect

Kirkland was arrested and booked into the Anderson County Detention Center. He is currently facing charges including:

  • Trafficking methamphetamine
  • Trafficking cocaine
  • Possession of a weapon during a violent crime

Authorities have not released additional details about the investigation at this time.
