Antwan Carter, 31, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after allegedly gunning down his girlfriend’s two brothers, Jaheim Pierre, 23, and Gianni Pierre, 28, at an apartment in Miami on Saturday, May 2, 2024. According to an arrest affidavit, the tragic incident occurred after the brothers came to the apartment to protect their sister from an alleged history of domestic violence involving Carter.
Details of the Shooting
The City of Miami Police responded to a call about shots being fired at the apartment located in the 5300 block of Northwest 17th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found the two brothers bleeding from gunshot wounds. Jaheim Pierre was declared dead at the scene, while Gianni Pierre was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
According to the police affidavit, Carter confessed to the crime, saying, “I’m the one,” and informed officers that he had the firearm. Carter allegedly used a 9 mm Glock 43 to shoot both men.
The Sequence of Events
Carter’s girlfriend, who had been living with him for about four years, reportedly told police that her brothers came over to her apartment to intervene in an argument between her and Carter. She explained that Jaheim Pierre started arguing with her, and when Carter intervened, Jaheim allegedly punched him, which led to a physical altercation between the three men.
During the struggle, Carter reportedly left the apartment to retrieve an “unknown object” from his car. As he was gone, his girlfriend locked the door, which reportedly enraged Carter. Security footage shows Carter pacing in front of the door and shouting, “Open up, open up, you soft a— n—s,” and “I bet one of you won’t open up.”
When Jaheim Pierre opened the door, Carter allegedly charged in, reached into his pocket, and fired several shots. The girlfriend screamed as she ran out barefoot, with her feet covered in blood. Carter then exited the apartment moments later.
The Aftermath of the Shooting
According to the affidavit, Gianni Pierre was sitting on a couch when he was shot, while Jaheim Pierre tried to seek cover next to his sister. Jaheim collapsed on top of his sister after being shot. Carter allegedly sat on the edge of the bed and said to his girlfriend, “See what you made me do?”
In response, she reportedly said, “I told you to leave,” before running out of the apartment.
Carter’s Claim and Police Investigation
Carter later told police that he had left the apartment initially to put “candies in his car” and get “a breath of fresh air.” He claimed that when he returned, both Pierre brothers “squared up” on him with “both fists in the air” and that’s when he opened fire.
A police walkthrough of the scene revealed spent casings and projectiles throughout the apartment, with pools of blood found near the couch where Gianni Pierre was seated, and in the closet where Jaheim Pierre collapsed.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Carter was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is currently being held in custody. The case is being treated as a domestic violence-related incident, with the girlfriend’s brothers coming to her defense during a violent confrontation.
The tragic killings highlight the devastating impact of domestic violence and its far-reaching consequences. Carter is expected to face trial in the coming months as the legal process continues.
